Unlike acute inflammation, chronic inflammation does not always produce obvious redness or swelling.
Some people may experience nonspecific symptoms such as:

- Difficulty maintaining a healthy weight
- Changes in blood sugar or cholesterol
- Frequent headaches
- Poor sleep
- Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
These symptoms can have many possible causes, so persistent symptoms should always be evaluated rather than automatically attributed to inflammation.
Your Diet Can Influence Inflammation
There is no single “anti-inflammatory diet,” but an eating pattern built around minimally processed, nutrient dense foods can support overall metabolic health.
Add More Color to Your Plate
Colorful fruits and vegetables contain vitamins, minerals, fiber, and plant compounds that support the body’s normal antioxidant and inflammatory processes.
Try incorporating foods such as:
Berries: Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
Leafy greens: Spinach, kale, collard greens, and arugula.
Cruciferous vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage.
Colorful vegetables: Bell peppers, tomatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, and beets.
A simple goal is to include two or more colors of produce at most meals.
Choose Healthy Fats
Not all dietary fats affect the body in the same way.
Foods rich in unsaturated fats and omega 3 fatty acids can be part of a heart healthy and anti-inflammatory eating pattern.
Good options include:

- Walnuts

- Flaxseed
- Fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, or trout
Don't Forget Fiber
Fiber does more than support regular bowel movements.
Fiber also feeds beneficial bacteria in the gut. Those bacteria produce compounds that can help support intestinal and metabolic health.
Increase fiber gradually through foods such as:

And remember: when increasing fiber, increasing water intake is important too.

These foods do not replace medical treatment, but they can be an easy way to add flavor while increasing the variety of plant foods in your diet.
What Should You Eat Less Often?
Reducing inflammation does not require eliminating every food you enjoy.
Instead, pay attention to foods that dominate your diet.
Try limiting frequent intake of:
- Highly processed foods
- Sugar-sweetened beverages
- Excessive added sugars
- Refined carbohydrates
- Processed meats
- Foods high in trans fats
- Excessive alcohol
The goal is not perfection.
It is creating an eating pattern where nutritious foods are what you consume most of the time.

Regular physical activity can support cardiovascular health, insulin sensitivity, weight management, mood, and inflammatory regulation.
You do not have to begin with intense exercise.
Walking, resistance training, stretching, cycling, swimming, and other enjoyable forms of movement all count.
Manage Chronic Stress
A stressful day is normal.
Living in a constant state of stress is different.
Chronic stress can influence cortisol, sleep, food choices, blood pressure, blood sugar, and immune function.
Stress management strategies may include:
- Deep breathing
- Meditation
- Prayer
- Journaling
- Spending time outdoors
- Setting boundaries
- Gentle exercise
- Disconnecting from electronics
- Spending meaningful time with family and friends
